80's cartoons

ok so the other day i wore my thundercats tshirt to work and this sparked a conversation that i just had to share.

i will leave out the reminiscing about the awsomeness that is thundercats. because it is. awesome. dont argue.

ok but on to the real post about the "controlled diversity", as i like to call it, of the 80's cartoon which happened to carry over into the early 90's. what i mean by this is that the feeble attempts for diversity in the cartoon just went to prolong the ethnic stereotypes of the time.
this unbelievably deep thought spurred from my realization that panthro was "the token black guy". he was effectively the Mr. T of the thundercats. he was tougher then all the rest, bald, and his specialty was making stuff from out of thin air. just like MR.T.

and this is not limited to thundercats. transformers had Jazz, G.I.Joe had Sgt. Stalker, the list goes on.

i would have to say that the worlds all time worst cartoon would have to be Captain Planet. now i grew up with this too so dont get mad. hear me out.
2 major reasons why it was the worst cartoon.


1. it was completely force feed PC crap. the diversity was completly unrealistic, and as children we went along with it because of shear ignorance. 5 people 5 ethnicities, all working in unison to save the world, from villains who want to ruin the planet. which leads me to my next reason.

2. complete green wash. all the villains didnt want to take over the world they wanted to pollute it. now when have you ever heard of a bad guy who just wants to make things dirty. the fact that gia was the earths spirit personified, and that captain planet was the five elementals put together. its just astonishing. i wouldnt be surprised if that show was funded by green peace and peta.

oh well ive ranted enough just makes you think.
